Steam-distilled from the flowering tops of Satureja montana, Mountain Savory — the "poivre d'ane" of the Provencal hills and one of the classic herbes de Provence — yields a warm, spicy, peppery oil. Purifying and oxygenating, it is a natural choice for a detox-minded routine, and its bracing aroma is by turns energising and grounding. This is a powerful, phenol-rich oil (carvacrol 35-50%): use it sparingly, always well diluted, and never neat on the skin.

Cautions Very potent and rich in carvacrol and thymol (phenols). Always dilute in a carrier (vegetable oil, honey or Solubol) and do not exceed 2%. Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or on children under 6. Do not use if you have a history of convulsions or are allergic to essential oils. Do not use over prolonged periods (hepato-toxic). Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Keep out of reach of children. External use only.
